Many credentials require professional continuing education units (or CEU’s) to keep the credential vital and current. The authorizing agency will determine the criteria for these CEUs, often looking at the credibility of the provider. Many providers have already been vetted by the organization so the buyer knows that the CEU’s will be accepted.
Others have not gone through an authorization process, and so they may not be accepted as they do not meet standards.
They buyer needs to check the credentials of the CEU provider and check with the authorizing agency so clearly understand what will count and what will not.
The actual time spent learning may be counted, not including breaks or early dismissals. The topic needs to be what a qualified expert can deliver based upon their training and background.
Documentation will be needed in case of a random audit, detailing the topic, length of presentation, details on the presenter, and evidence of having actually attended each session.
